2009 Scorpions Of The Year

When we see F1 team-mates pose together for publicity shots we are always meant to see two firm friends pulling as one for the team. Only rarely do we see the dark undercurrents of their relationship, but we know the truth.

Every F1 driver has one great enemy and rival scorpion, his team-mate. If a driver comes ninth in the driver’s championship that is no disaster for him, he can only do what the car is capable of. But if his team-mate outscores him he is fresh out of excuses; his earning power is damaged and he will not be considered for a drive in a top team.

Not all F1 teams have named their 2009 driver line-ups. Here I consider some of those that have, and try to see who is the deadlier scorpion in each pair.
