Bellingham’s Taddeo a true survivor

It was the last Tri-Valley League track meet of the season. Bellingham at Holliston. Paul Taddeo threw the shot put and discus for Bellingham. The discus was his specialty. His personal best had been 111 feet. To qualify for the state divisional meet this weekend, Taddeo had to do 120 feet or better.
He had three attempts. The first two throws were all right, but not good enough to qualify for the state divisionals. He had one throw left. The pressure must have been stifling.
“Yes it was,” says Taddeo. “But when I go up and throw, I just block everything out.”
He released the discus. It felt right. But there was no way of knowing for sure. Maybe his mind was playing tricks. “I could tell by the tightness of the throw it was looking good,” says Taddeo. It measured 123 feet, 8 inches. “I ran around with my hands up, and got the discus.”
Not only were his teammates happy for him, the Holliston team joined in too.
“He was jumping around like he’d made the Olympics,” says Blackhawks track coach Sandy Xenos.
The Holliston athletes’ appreciation of what Taddeo had done went beyond good sportsmanship. They all knew what the big kid had been through. And for this to happen. …
***
He was 16 years old cialis online kaufen, and he feared the worst. “I had to get a physical for track,” says Taddeo. But it might not be that simple, he thought. Not that routine.
“I think I suspected something,” he says. Something that wasn’t good.
How could he tell? You know, by looking down there.
The examining physician sent Taddeo to a urologist. The appointment was on a Tuesday. The surgery was on Friday. The teenager had testicular cancer. “It was kind of surreal,” he says. “What would we do from here? I’d have to deal with it.”
The surgery was at MetroWest Medical Center, Natick. As soon as Taddeo woke up, they sent him home. He would miss his sophomore year of track. “That was pretty tough.”
Even tougher was the chemotherapy, which started in the summer of 2006. “The first round wasn’t bad at all, just some bad taste in my mouth,” says Taddeo. “The second round was a little tougher. Third round, I viagra pries felt terrible. I had no energy.” He just laid there in his room at Children’s Hospital, wondering.
He missed the last week of school. The last blast of chemo was in July. The football season was approaching. He was a lineman for the Blackhawks, 6-foot-2, 230 pounds. “I honestly didn’t think I’d wind up playing football that year,” he says. “I missed captain’s practices and preseason practices because my white blood cell count was low.”
But he stayed with it. Nobody said it’d be easy. “The first two weeks of practice were the roughest. I wasn’t as conditioned as the other kids. I missed out on weight training.”
He didn’t see much action that season. But it was better than not playing at all, not being a part of the team. “I was happy with my playing time. Coach would say ‘Hey Paul, go in for so-and-so.’ I’d go in and do my best.”
“It’s an amazing story,” says Bellingham football coach Ted Rigney. “He earned a spot on the team.”
What Taddeo endured just to suit up on Friday nights was testimony of the boy’s character. He wasn’t going to be a starter. Rigney figured it take a special kid to go through what Taddeo did, knowing he’d be a bit player.
“It was devastating when we heard (about the cancer),” says Rigney. “He’s one of the best-liked kids on the team. Definitely a role model.”
This senior year, the Blackhawks turned in a 9-2 season, and Taddeo was thrilled to be a part of it. He played on special teams.
“At first I was a little nervous that I’d get the ball kicked at me and I wouldn’t get it and the other team would,” he recalls. “Thank God that didn’t happen.”
Xenos found out about Taddeo’s cancer from his friends. “He didn’t make a big deal of it. He’s got a great heart, really.”
A coach can only work with an athlete so much. Teach him technique. Show and tell him things he doesn’t know. Lend encouragement. “But you can’t give kids hearts,” says Xenos. “Paul doesn’t need a lot of motivation.”
Taddeo’s personality makes him impossible not to like. “He’s a little kid in a big person’s body,” says Xenos.
Assistant track coach John Pendelbury works specifically with Taddeo on his events. “He’s a hard-working kid,” says Pendlebury. “A great kid. And smart. A pleasure to coach. When he came back (from the cancer), he had such a positive attitude. It was tough at the beginning. He’d tire easily. He was going to fight this thing. He was going to get back to his life. Back …

Take-Two Spent $11 Million during EA’s Takeover Bid
one of the big stories from earlier in the year was electronic arts’ continued efforts to acquire grand pilfering auto publisher take-two. the deal ultimately fell through, but not, it seems, beforehand it cost take-two a hefty sum of in clover. according to their 2008 annual give an account of (via gamasutra), the publisher spent $11.1 million in costs related to ea’s takeover attempts.
The specifics behind the costs weren’t detailed, although the report indicates part of the costs went toward their “strategic review process.” Throughout the takeover bid, Take-Two continued to maintain they were looking into “strategic alternatives” while refusing EA’s offers.
The original deal EA proposed was valued at approximately $2 billion, with around $25 offered per share, but Take-Two continually refused, claming the deal undervalued the company. As of this writing, Take-Two stock closed at $8.43 a share (not to mention the $11 million they spent during the takeover bid), and CEO Strauss Zelnick even received the ultimate dishonor of a spot on Mad Money’s Wall of Shame.

Biggest College Basketball Game of the Year
tomorrow is the biggest game of the young college basketball season. tomorrow, on cbs, at 2:00 pm est, my xavier university musketeers will take on duke. okay, maybe i’m exaggerating only a little, but this honestly is a huge pretend for us. besides playing arguably the best program in the wilderness, xavier owes a little spitefulness on the blue devils. duke knocked xavier out in a clench-biter in our first always request to make the final four in 2004. we lost 66-63 in an arbitrary heart-breaker, which most xavier fans soundless haven’t gotten over. we also lost to duke in the second round of the 1987 tournament, 65-60. tomorrow, however, i believe the muskies will change this trend and exclude the izod center in east rutherford, nj, successful. here are my reasons: although the roster of the duke blue devils is devious with mcdonalds all-americans, xavier is
filled with skyline all-cincinnatians! concerning those of you not familiar with cincinnati, skyline chili is the national cuisine as a service to cincinnatians. ask any ex-caress congratulate and chances are they’re craving the greek-phrasing chili right now. skyline also happens to be the legitimate promote of the “crosstown shootout”, the annual tournament between the university of cincinnati and xavier university. since xavier has already won this year’s game, and has more or less dominated the series in recent years, i have unofficially bestowed upon the team the designate of “skyline all-cincinnatians” in order to give our guys a little more patriotic recognition and detail. xavier also has a bit of serendipity working on its side. this past wednesday (december 17),
duke course unc ashville after a layoff of 11 days for exams. they just missed the century mark by 1 point. last year, on the exact same date, after a 9 day layoff for exams, duke scored past 100 points when they form albany 111-70. the interesting as for nearly this analysis is that on duke’s next game, played on december 20 (same day as this years xavier-duke game), in new york conurbation (just across the hudson from east rutherford), the blue devils astray to pittsburgh, which happens to be the alma-mater of xavier’s coach, sean miller. too, duke, at the time of their loss to pitt, was ranked #6. duke is currently ranked # 6 in both the ap and the usa today polls. as you can plainly see, the stars are completely aligned for the musketeers! i’m ill-starred to say, but dickie v, jay bilas and billy packer will be crying in their beer once the final horn blows. go muskies!jeffhikinginthesmokys.com detailed information on trails in the smoky mountains; includes trail descriptions, critical features, pictures, video, maps, wen profiles, news, and more.smoky mountain day hikers store quality gear and apparel from some of the win out over outdoor brands.

small shade almost slayed the giant in the championship game of the 31st annual mountain cat tournament for high school boys saturday night at the pitt-johnstown sports center.the panthers had two chances in the end three seconds to defeat class aaaa hollidaysburg, falling well-grounded short in a 58-57 damage to the golden tigers, their second title in three years.”we have all the respect in the world in support of shade,” hollidaysburg coach mick pentoney said. “that small school stuff is bananas. that team has been together during a while and you can tell. they did an outstanding difficulty and we’re only just pleased we came out with the win.”
